Screen Printing
Screen printing, also known as silk screening, is a versatile printing technique that involves transferring ink onto a substrate, typically fabric, paper, or plastic, through a mesh screen. A stencil or design is applied to the screen, blocking certain areas and leaving others open for the ink to pass through.
This method is widely used for its ability to produce vibrant and long-lasting prints. The process begins with preparing the screen, which involves coating it with a light-sensitive emulsion. Once the emulsion dries, the screen is exposed to light through a film positive of the design. The light hardens the emulsion, except in areas where the design blocks it, creating a stencil. The screen is then washed to remove the unhardened emulsion, leaving the stencil ready for printing. Ink is placed on the screen, and a squeegee is used to press it through the open areas of the stencil onto the substrate. Multiple screens can be used to layer different colors, allowing for complex and detailed designs. This technique is favored for its durability, making it ideal for printing on textiles, promotional items, and various other surfaces.
